About Veterans Hill Farm
Committed to helping veterans with PTSD heal and attain the support they need to function in the world today
Helping Veterans Heal
Veterans Hill Farm (VHF) was initiated for disabled veterans, primarily veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Military personnel go through many different experiences while deployed overseas. Many veterans are diagnosed with PTSD and we intend to help those who really need assistance coping with PTSD. The services here will be like a retreat offering animals that will help with therapy, Veterans will be able to live on site for a short time, provide farm to table food, and have access to other health and wellness services.
Veterans will complete an application for a 28-day residence on the farm. Upon granting residence the applicant may stay in one of our on-site small homes. The veteran must stay within the limits of the farm to maintain enrollment in the program. They are free to leave whenever they like, but once off the farm termination of services are immediate and they must reapply to the program. While on the farm veterans can expect to work various jobs and assigned various duties. In return, they will receive meals, housing, pre and post counseling and access to treatments. Treatments may include one on one counseling, group therapy, access to religious counselors, and comradery with fellow veterans. Working with animals on a daily basis has been proven to release stress and anxiety.
This is a working farm. Applicants will learn to grow and harvest food, maintain animals, and prepare the food they raised. A local chef will teach them how to prepare farm fresh food for a healthy, inexpensive, and tasty living. This will help with the health issues found in many soldiers to include: diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol all leading to higher risk of heart attack.
There will be activities for those who want to participate. Yoga, martial arts, and painting will be available from our volunteer instructors also helping with stress and health issues. A local gym has offered their facility for the veterans to use daily.
Since the farm has a zero-tolerance drug policy, if the veteran needs addiction services prior to acceptance to the farm they will be referred to Military Families United for assistance and/or placement in a residential treatment facility.
